Sometimes this feels like the first PKD novel I ever read. It has been so long since I’ve read this that I wonder what happened to my copy. It looked nothing like this one that I know for sure. The premise is simplicity itself: the Axis won World War 2 and took over America. If they made this today it would be some piece of Michael Bay style crap. Instead it is an extrapolative exercise in restraint concerned with the nature of memory and history. Won the Hugo Award in 1963. One of his best. Now let me see if I can find my copy….
